Mommy says I have to do my part in this $$$ tight economy. Wow, I'm only a kid -- 1-1/2 dog years (that's 10 in human years). I told her to be careful, you know Jon & Kate are being investigated for child labor laws!

The picture may be a bit misleading. I'm hiding under the Global desk chair, guarding it from being snatched (I am, after all, using it for shade in this 100° Houston heat wave). I may move to under the executive desk soon. Someone ate a salad over there and I smell cracker crumbs!

I'm on work release today. That is, I'm at work with Mommy but even though there's a gate, I'm at least out of jail and out of the house.

I thought since Mommy dressed me early this morning, I was going to get to go to the park! I have on my athletic jacket so I thought I could play football. There's a guy in the park that can throw long balls for me to catch so I pretend I'm Julio Jones and I'm heading for the endzone! ... Now, if Mommy could only throw like John Park Wilson, but unfortunately, she throws like a girl......

Another Celebrity Goes To Jail!

Hot Off the Houston Puppy Press!!!
That capricious Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Bentley Duval, is under house arrest again this morning. Duval is howling his innocence stating that the incident in question is just misinterpretation.

The accused juvenile threw himself on the mercy of the merciless court stating that to the canine ear, there was no distinction between “Jimmy Chew” and “Jimmy Choo”!!! However, Sharron, who believes in her sovereign rule instead of the “presumed innocent” theory, had Bentley immediately incarcerated for an undetermined (at time of this publication) length of time.

This isn’t Bentley Duval’s first skirmish with authority figures over fine leather goods! In June he was caught red-handed attempting to tear rather large chunks of upholstery from Col. Steve’s SUV! And, also in mid-August, Mom’s friend, animal lover extraordinaire, Connie, persuaded Sharron to go easy on little Bentley regarding that incident with Connie’s Coach wallet. Perhaps, had Sharron not catered to public outcries and pressure from the United Fellowship of Untrained Canines, young Bentley may have been rehabilitated by now.

After completing his incarceration, the ever-charming Bentley has been ordered to attend weekly behavioral modification sessions at an obedience school.

Bentley has made a plea to his fans this morning to leave comments on his blog encouraging Sharron to lighten his sentence (and also a bit more exercise time in the yard)!

Meet Lexus ... yep, she's a cute little kitten that will grow into a ... oh, how I hate to say the word, "CAT"!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it was a pretty good day until we heard from one of Mommy's BFF's, Lori. Now, Lori and i have been pals for a while now -- although a confirmed "non-pet" person she's come around the last few months and pets me and tells me I'm beautiful and even takes me for runs in the park ... but today, chagrin, chagrin, she found a kitten! A ragdoll kitten, no less! I musta racked up some serious ragdoll karma in my past life because I'm surrounded with the them with all of Mommy's friends -- Catherine has three, ugh, ... they don't run when I bark ... they just lay there and stare ... that ragdoll stare gives me the creeps ... and when they hiss ...... I don't sleep for hours ... Any way, this little kitten crawled out out of the grill of a Lexus so now that's her name. And, what's more, Lori is going to keep her ...... am I going to have to run in the park with a cat???

I am taking the high road and looking at the bright side, Mommy said she would take her as company for me ... but fortunately, Lori said she was already attached to Lexus.

I love Mommy, but what was she thinking???????

There's nothing like a nice pat on the head -- especially on a Monday! Actually, this was taken last night and I'm at the vet while this is being blogged. I ate a chew toy, stuffing and all, but Mom just talked to the doctor and the good news is I'm doing just fine, however, I did overhear that right after lunch, I will be getting a bath!

Of course, Mommy making me use that pink leash (I chewed through my black one) isn't helping matters. I mean, like most guys, I gotta admit, Liz was (and is) a fox, but I'm a boy and a DOG! A BOY DOG! I can't help it if I'm pretty ... but, couldn't you girls say "handsome"???? After all, Mommy named me after actor, Robert Duvall -- now, really would you call him Elizabeth Taylor? I don't think so ... at least not twice!

[ps: an email or two pushing Mommy to buy me a more manly leash would be appreciated!

Another Day At the Beach!

Wow, digging the beach ... life, again!!! Yesterday, Mommy "had plans ..." so she left me with her friend Lynda for the day and Lynda decided she wanted to go a party down in Galveston and took me along! We partied with her friends 'til about 10. Wow, I was one tired puppy!

Her friends are great and let me have a couple of "people food" snacks. I really like those sun dried veggie chips but Mommy says a definitive "no" to people food and puppies, but Lynda says not to worry, she'll take me to the beach again soon! Guess Mommy will have to start including me in her "plans", don't you think?

There's a new dog in the park. My new friend, Findley; she's a 10 week old Goldenoodle and quite a lively gal! I'm glad we're making friends now because she's bigger than me already so I need to let her know who's in charge now! Of course, I think being friends with the biggest dog in park may be a good thing!

Findley lives with my park buddies, Moose and Bear. They'll be at the park tomorrow and I'll get Mommy to take pictures.

Great Story --

A wealthy old Gentleman decides to go on a hunting safari in
Africa, and to take his faithful, elderly German Shepherd along
for the trip.

One day the old German Shepherd starts chasing rabbits and
before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he
notices a leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the
intention of having lunch.

The old German Shepherd thinks, 'Oh, oh! I'm in deep poop
now!'

Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately
settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching
cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the old German Shepherd
exclaims loudly, 'Boy, that was one delicious leopard! I wonder, if there
are any more around here?'

Hearing this, the young leopard halts his attack in mid-strike, a look
of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. 'Whew!'
says the leopard, 'That was close! That old German Shepherd nearly
had me!'

Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene
from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use
and trade it for protection from the leopard. So, off he goes; but the
old German Shepherd sees him heading after the leopard with great
speed, and figures that something must be up.

The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and
strikes a deal for himself with the leopard.

The young leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says,
'Here, monkey, hop on my back and see what's going to happen
to that conniving canine!'

Now, the old German Shepherd sees the leopard coming with
the monkey on his back and thinks, 'What am I going to do now?';
but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his
attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and just when
they get close enough to hear, the old German Shepherd
says...

'Where's that darn monkey? I sent him off an hour ago to
bring me another leopard!

Moral of this story...

Don't mess with the old dogs. Age and skill will always
overcome youth and treachery! BS and brilliance only come
with age and experience.

A Lazy, Rainy Day

That rascal, Race Rau ["Grumpy" to his friends], heard I was going to drop by the dog show at Reliant to see my Dad in the Cavalier Show and since I am such a "chick magnet", he sent me a picture of his niece, Paige Rau (who's in the Lakeland show) and told me to STAY AWAY from her! Race, by the way is a grumpy old man of 9, and working on the Guiness World Record of becoming the largest Lakeland Terrier on record! Mom has known him since he was my age and she says Race is like Merrill Lynch -- when he speaks, other dogs better listen!

I feel like Willie Nelson 'cause I'm on the road, again! After eating an inordinate amount of junk food at the beach last week and oinking out on bar-b-que ribs and all the trimmings this weekend, Mommy woke up on a health food kick. She and one of her BFF 's Catherine (my beloved Ginger's Mom) zipped over to Austin for supplies and I got to go! We stopped at Austin's famous Juice Bar and I made friends with some very hip-looking UT students and a labordoodle named Vidalia but Mommy's camera battery died so you don't get to see my new friends.

I even got some organic doggie treats. I must admit, a veggie bone tastes better than it sounds!

This is my new friend, Linda Thompson, from Ethel, Mississippi. My Mommy asked Linda where she lived and she said, "My husband [Papa Tom] says, 'the sun sets between our house and the big road in Ethel, Mississippi.'" Ethel sounds like a cool place, they have a Cut 'N Curl and a service station but you have to go to Sherman to the Post Office or to see a red light! Linda was great fun and let me lick her face a lot!

At The Beach With Granny!

This is my Mommy's mother, Claire. Destin is very dog friendly so Granny took me to the beach this morning for some sun ... and then again this afternoon to watch the sun set! We had a great time ... we've found a picnic table we like and we sat in the breeze and watched the birds and everyone walked by petted me! It was great!

In the afternoon when we went back to the beach, Uncle Gary came and brought my Shitz Tzu cousin, Siddah!

This morning when I woke up I realized immediately that there was something terribly wrong! I felt a slight sting where my favorite things used to be!!! Please, someone call LOST & FOUND! I WANT THEM BACK! I know Mommy has been threatening for a while, saying that my incessant love affair with all of her friends' feet had to stop, but seriously, when has Mommy really carried through on a threat? Generally, all I have to do is cry and she craters like a house of cards!

What will I tell dear Ginger??? We had all of those litters planned? The humiliation ... and then to top it off, Col. Steve said "a cupcake canine like Bentley didn't need 'em anyway!" Grrrrrrh, five minutes, Lord, that's all I ask, five minutes alone with Col. Steve's prized, handmade cowboy boots, yeaaaaaaaaah, this little cupcake will make scars on those boots a pit bull would brag about!

Guess Mommie knew she'd be in trouble for leaving me at the Vet's office all day so when she got home, she came in bearing gifts -- I named the octupus, Octavia, and her friend, Becks, named the frog Gene Simmons because of the tongue thing (see video).

Mommie is taking me on a vacation in a couple of weeks! First, we're driving to Foley, AL to Mommie's niece, Kris, then to Orange Beach to see Mommie's nephew, Greg and his wife, Mary, and new baby Maggie, and my two beagle cousins, Lucy and Rosie! Then, we're headed to Destin, FL to see Uncle Gary and Aunt Debbie and that wild Shitz Tsu, Siddah! Then,... on to Tuscaloosa where Mommie grew up to see some of her high school and college friends. She's been teaching me a Roll Tide cheer (video will follow soon, I'm sure!). Depending upon where Grandma is, we may tack on a little junket up to Arab, AL

My beloved Ginger is coming home! Ginger is my "older" (4 mos older which is almost 2 yrs in human time) redheaded girlfriend (a rare ruby Cavalier). She and Auntie Catherine have been in Atlanta and I haven't see her for a month! We came from the same breeder but different litters. All the boys want her but she says her heart belongs only to me!

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years --canine or feline attendance is not required.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:

To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets:

1. They live here. You don't.

2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.(That's why they call it "fur"niture.)

Well, Mom got her cast off Friday (did I tell you that on our way to Happy Hounds' obedience school we stopped to buy a clicker and I tripped her up in the parking lot and she broke her elbow and cracked her arm in three places!). I thought it was great! She stayed at home with me for a whole week and came home early almost every day for the next five weeks.

Summary:

Bad news: School
Good news: I won't have to walk so much!
